Are solar photovoltaic panels suitable for my property?

Solar photovoltaic panels are suitable for a wide range of properties, including domestic and commercial buildings. If you are interested in having a system installed, one of our surveyors will visit your property. They will be able to advise you on whether your building is suitable, as well as the size of system you might need.
For some properties, we may also recommend an independent structural survey to ensure your roof is strong enough. This is often the case with period properties. As a rough guide, your property will be suitable for solar panels if you have a roof that:

• Has a pitch of between 30 and 40 degrees (other pitches will also work, but will be less efficient).
• Is free from the shade of trees and buildings.
• Has a southerly aspect (east and west will also work, but will be less efficient).

Every home is different and if you are unsure, our surveyors will be able to advise you. They will also create a feasibility study and work with your local planning office should you wish to go ahead.

How do you install solar panels for electricity?

Mace can usually fit solar panels for electricity in around 2-3 days. We aim to cause minimum disruption to your home – so we ensure we’re clean, tidy and efficient. We use only the best equipment and technologies, fitted by our expert engineers. Your system will include:

• Solar panels on your roof – to convert the sun’s rays to DC electricity.
• A small inverter unit - to convert DC electricity to AC electricity. The inverter ensures the energy you produce is at the right voltage and frequency.
• A solar energy meter -  to record how much electricity is generated by your panels.

The electricity you generate will go directly to your home’s consumer unit and will be used to power your lighting and appliances. Any electricity that you don’t use will be sent back to the grid, earning you money!
